New beginnings are always good, so let's welcome the new calendar year of 2004, even though the real New Year began back at Rosh Hashanah…or was it at the first day of Nisan in the spring? In either case, we have a new year and another new beginning this month, since we commence our annual reading of the Book of Exodus.

Indeed, Exodus is a book of new beginnings. In Genesis God creates humankind; in Exodus he creates a new humanity, Israel, to be his chosen people. In Genesis God promises the patriarchs that he will make of them a great people; in Exodus he fulfills the promise ... for more.
 
  The News in Brief
 
Some of you may have read or heard about a recent article in Jews for Jesus' Havurah newsletter criticizing recent public statements by UMJC leaders. It is certainly acceptable for Jews for Jesus to express their critique. However, I do feel that the article represents poor journalism and a lack of professionalism. To help bring balance to the discussion we are making available on our web site the original article, plus responses from two UMJC leaders who were quoted in it. The Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations holds that the One GOD, the GOD of creation, the GOD of Israel, the GOD of our ancestors, of Whom our tradition speaks, reveals Himself uniquely, definitively, and decisively in the life, death, resurrection, and return of Yeshua the Messiah.

Yeshua is the incarnation of the Divine WORD through Whom the world was made, and of the Divine GLORY through Whom GOD revealed Himself to Israel and acted in their midst. The Planters Program is to initiate and to help facilitate the establishment of new Messianic Jewish congregations in the United States and abroad. This is accomplished though the selection, training and employment of qualified leaders to select locations that exhibit significant Jewish presence
